The Iniversal Development ofRas Tafari Inc (IDOR) launched its regional prison ministry on March 24, 2014 with a long overdue visit to the Jessup Correctional facility in Maryland.

The engagement was requested early 2013 by Priest William Williams while he was incarcerated at the Jessup facility. After organizing a group of young inmates who identified with, and sought solace in the virtues of Ras Tafari, Priest William reached out to the Baltimore/Washington Ras Tafari community for support and fellowship. The Iniversal Development of Ras Tafari Inc. responded with an initial visit from its Executive Director, Elder Irice Clarke accompanied by yours truly in August 2013.

The 2014 Prison Ministry launch is intended to bring more spiritual, educational and cultural support to the brothers in Jessup, all of whom have embraced the moral examples of Ras Tafari and the philosophical teachings of Haile Selassie I, as the sum total of their mortal aspirations.

IDOR is grateful for the assistance of Priest William who empowered our involvement. Also, Chaplin Peterson, who made our entry possible, the many volunteers of various faith who consistently offer humanitarian services to the inmates in need of such services, and all the support personnel at the Jessup Correctional Facility who positively engage the inmates.

May Ras Tafari protect, guide and bless the Brothers as they engage in the process of self evaluation and finding life’s purpose. We should ALL take time to Hail HIM!!
